Beef from cattle reared on our own farms
At Rightons of Shipston the beef is specially selected from the farm for the shop. We only chose heifers (females) of around 24 to 30 months old because they provide the best eating quality. It is hung for up to 21 days ensuring tenderness, maturity and flavour. Only our own well matured beef is used for our steak mince and stewing steak and for our steak & kidney, steak and steak and Guiness pies.
All the beef is butchered on site which means that you the customer can specify your requirements. Brian and Paul are always happy to discuss cuts of meat so that you get the exact piece you want.
The majority of our herd comprises black Hereford cows, to which we put Blonde D'Aquitaine bulls. The combination produces a carcass with a high meat yield, just the right amount of fat to hang properly and excellent flavour.
Beef cattle spend at least two summers grazing ancient pasture land and in winter are fed on home produced maize, hay and silage.
